Newborn Hospital Visits

We have enjoyed many years of welcoming newborns and meeting new families at various hospitals throughout  the DC metropolitan area.  However, as of December 1, 2012, we decided as a group to discontinue this service and no longer remain active staff at any area hospital.  Although there were many relevant factors taken into consideration, we ultimately felt it was best to focus our efforts exclusively on office-based services.  Every hospital has staff physicians that will evaluate your newborn during their inpatient stay and then discharge them to our care.  Babies born by routine vaginal delivery generally are discharged in two days.  We then schedule a newborn office visit within 48 to 72 hours of discharge.  Babies born by C-section often remain in the hospital 3 to 4 days due to their mother’s longer inpatient stay.  We still recommend first office visit in the same time frame of 48 to 72 hours after discharge.  Please be aware that it is standard of care for babies to receive their first Hepatitis B vaccine prior to discharge.  We ask that you try to remember to bring any discharge paperwork with you to your first office visit as it include much important information such as date of Hepatitis vaccination and relevant history and test results.
